Readers may be wondering where I have disappeared to. This departure from my blog took place earlier this year when I had the joy of A-level exams to look forward to. Following their completion in June, I was liberated to write as much as I liked here and utterly loved the experience. However, as you will have read, I began university this September, which I am enjoying. There is plenty of reading to do shall we say. I have four modules, which each involve one lecture and one seminar per week. The lecture is 50 minutes of making notes on a specific topic, followed by reading we are set for the following week's seminar. The seminar is a more informal, student-led discussion uncovering more issues from the seminar in depth.
In the first few weeks, I tried to do both the essential and much of the recommended reading for the seminars. It's rather enjoyable to learn about the world from a more academic perspective, reading journals of the highest quality and all aspire to enhance knowledge of the world in which we live. However, there is rather a lot of it! I have essays due throughout the next few weeks, which correspond to respective lectures and seminars. This means my reading has to be prioritised for the essay topics I wish to write about. That being said, I have been able to enjoy a social life, mainly through societies. I have, of course, joined the Politics Society, where lots of interesting and rather memorable discussions have taken place. As you will have read in a previous blog, I've joined each of the three main political parties on campus. Given the imminent general election, all my emails are now about campaigning. I could only go canvassing if it were to write a piece about each party's strategy, but, for some reason, I'm not sure they would all agree! Despite the decreasing blogs on here, I have been writing away for the Warwick student newspaper 'The Boar.' It recently won the BBC Radio 4's Today Student Publication for the second year in a row, something I was so pleased to hear. It is wonderful to publish online. I still get amazed that, potentially, people all over the world have the choice to read my musings. But it is nothing like being published in print. In the last three editions of the Boar, I have had an article feature on taking life slowly, the decline of political discourse and the changing world of work. I love the variety and freedom of articles editors allow me to write. It's great, like this blog, for unwinding from the lovely, exhausting, busy, stressful and oh so unique experience that is university.
