Hello, I'm Noah Keate and welcome to my small corner of the internet. Born and raised in Cambridge, Since September 2022, I have been completing the NCTJ fast-track Multimedia Journalism Diploma at News Associates in Twickenham. I have written for a range of national publications including the Daily Mirror, Metro, Politico and Reaction. I am interested in political journalism, social policy and cultural trends. Since July 2022, I have been an editor at the Backbench website, helping other writers craft their words. I am also an editor at The Speaker website doing a similar role. Between 2019 and 2022, I read politics at the University of Warwick, graduating with a first (with honours).
While studying at Warwick, I wrote over 250 articles for The Boar, Warwick's award winning student newspaper, writing for every section. Between 2020 and 2021, I was a Deputy Comment Editor, going onto serve as a Deputy Books Editor between 2021 and 2022. I have also written for a range of other student publications, including Perspectives, Backbench, the Meridian magazine and Nowadays. While at Warwick, I was a presenter on the student radio station 'RAW 1251AM', covering the heavier and lighter sides of news.
I've been involved with local print, online and broadcast journalism. I've written culture pieces for the Inside Cambridge website and EastLife magazine, as well as news pieces for Kenilworth Nub News. While at News Associates, I have written for their in-house website: the South West Londoner I'm also a researcher for the community radio station 'Cambridge 105 Radio', booking guests for their monthly politics show to ensure a wide variety of views are heard.
I wrote a chapter in the book 'Prime Minister Priti...and other things that never happened', which was published by Biteback in July 2021 and helped the LBC presenter Iain Dale with his new book 'On this Day in Politics: Britain's Political History in 365 Days' by researching stories and contributing first drafts of chapters. The book will be published by Allen and Unwin UK in October 2022.
In July 2022, I completed two weeks of work experience at Prospect magazine. In preparation for their summer edition, I helped to factcheck numerous articles, which involved conducting research on the internet. I also helped to proof-read articles, making sure they read in a coherent manner and were convincing to readers. The experience required working well in a team as well as independent working and using my initiative.
In August 2022, I completed two weeks of work experience at the Reaction website. This involved researching stories, writing articles in the house style, communicating with editors and using my initiative. A mixture of short-form and longer feature articles were written. The topics related to the Conservative leadership election, the Archie Battersbee case and the increase in energy prices. Since September 2022, I have completed my Friday work placement at Reaction, helping to write the daily email and political stories.
In August 2022, I also completed a week of work experience at Politico. This involved joining morning meetings and helping the London team with research. It required working well in a team while also being independent and using my initiative as I complied Liz Truss' promises made during the leadership campaign. Referencing was particularly important to ensure my findings were built on concrete statements and evidence. The work experience was valuable for teaching me how long term projects develop and come together.
Technically, I am experienced with using WordPress, PhotoShop, InDesign and Audacity. Furthermore, I am adept at driving a radio desk, thinking of timely pitches, communicating with editors, fitting a house style and promoting my work on social media.
